The heat is growing from the inside, but danger is building on the outside.
Judge Andrew Phillips runs a tight ship in his courtroom. He’s tough, and when he hands down a sentence, he expects to be obeyed. So when a fugitive named Harper escapes and threatens his life, Andrew isn’t keen on 24-7 protection… especially not from Deputy Clay Brown. They have a past, one that could cause problems in their careers.
But with Clay assigned to Andrew and the two of them together every minute, there’s nowhere to hide from their attraction—or from the fact that there’s much more than chemistry blooming between them. As the threat intensifies, Clay knows he’ll do anything it takes to protect the people who are taking their places in his heart: Andrew and his young niece and nephew.

Publishing Confessional - Expectations vs. Reality

This is something that’s quite difficult for me because my publishing experience is so very different form that of most authors.  But I think I’m going to talk about covers.  After listening to my author friends and hearing their stories, one thing is quite clear.  Most publishers, other than a cover form early in the process, give the author very little say in their book covers.  The publisher produces an image that they believe will sell the book.  That’s all.  Sometimes publishers will allow the author to tweak the cover if something is really wrong.  I heard once where the model they used had blue eyes and the visual department liked the cover so much, that the publisher asked the author to change the eye color in the story to match the cover.

So my expectations were set and I was prepared to write the mother of all cover spec sheets and then pray for the best.  But Dreamspinner is different.  I have a great deal of input into my covers and over the years have gone back and forth with the cover artist many times.  We work together to develop an image that represents the book and is attractive.  I think this results in a better product in the end, but I’m no expert.  I know it results in more authors loving their covers and I really think that helps in the long run.
